The 2025 Miaoli International Ceramics Award (MICA), hosted by the Miaoli County Government and organized by the Miaoli County Cultural Affairs Bureau, has received an enthusiastic response from ceramic artists around the world. In response to high interest and to encourage greater participation, the organizer has officially announced an extension of the submission deadline to September 8, 2025 (Monday). The original deadline was set for September 5.
All interested artists and creators are encouraged to take advantage of this final opportunity to participate and present their work on an international stage.
With the theme “Outside of Possible”, the 2025 edition of MICA continues the vision of the Miaoli Pottery Art Festival, promoting innovation in ceramic arts and fostering international exchange. The competition invites artists from across the globe to push the conceptual, technical, and formal boundaries of ceramics and to explore new horizons in contemporary ceramic art.

📌 Competition Categories
Participants must select one category only, and may submit up to three original works completed after January 1, 2022.

(1) Arts Category
This category highlights the rich diversity of ceramic expression and the spirit of cross-disciplinary integration. Submissions may take the form of objects, sculptures, installations, video works, or other creative formats. Artists are encouraged to explore material experimentation and conceptual innovation, pushing the limits of ceramics in a contemporary art context. A wide range of ceramic techniques and firing methods is welcomed. While mixed media and diverse materials may be used, ceramics must be the core medium or conceptual focus, in accordance with the competition’s emphasis on ceramic art.

(2) Functional Ware Category
This category emphasizes the contemporary interpretation of functional ceramics in everyday life. Creators are encouraged to approach their work from a lifestyle perspective, considering the interaction between the object and the user. Submissions should address material, function, form, tactility, and usage context. Works may be presented as individual pieces or cohesive series, but must be functionally usable and reflect a reimagined role for utilitarian ceramics in today’s culture. While other materials are allowed, ceramics must constitute at least 60% of the overall composition, aligning with the competition’s core theme.
