The Miaoli County Government has constructed a “Hakka Round House,” designed in the style of earthen buildings, in the Houlong High-Speed Rail Zone. This unique structure, combined with the beautiful landscape of the Beishi River, transformed into a waterfront promenade, serves as a splendid facade for Miaoli. It showcases the local culture, welcoming tourists to Miaoli.
Situated near the Miaoli High-Speed Rail Station, the Hakka Round House is the most prominent stretch of the waterfront promenade, often referred to as the “Heart of Beishi River.” Its architectural style mimics the traditional Tulou structure found in the original villages of mainland China, exuding a strong sense of Hakka culture. The site also features a circular pond pathway, a scenic arc-shaped platform, a welcoming plaza, and a waterfront boardwalk, offering a rich choice of recreational facilities.
Occupying an area of 1,385 square meters with a total floor area of 3,476 square meters, the Hakka Round House consists of a basement and three above-ground levels, presenting an aerial view of a circular architectural structure. Managed externally under the Act for Promotion of Private Participation in Infrastructure Projects, it has been transformed into the “Taiwan Hakka Eight Sounds Opera Promotion Center,” serving as a hub for promoting traditional Hakka performing arts. Its mission is to promote Hakka Eight Sounds Opera by hosting periodic performances, demonstrations, exhibitions, teaching sessions, and themed lectures. It aims to contribute to the preservation and promotion of Hakka culture, providing the public with opportunities to experience the beauty of Hakka opera.
